March Madness Wacky Dental Facts

March Madness is a sports lovers dream. Starting tomorrow, college basketball teams across the country will begin the championship race. Anything can happen when the steaks are high and the winner takes all; truly exemplifying "madness". To celebrate the beginning of March Madness, we've gathered some crazy and fun dental facts. Check out the following:
  1. The average human produces 25,000 quarts of saliva in a lifetime.
  2. Keep your toothbrush far away from the toilet. Airborne particles from the flush can travel up to 6 feet!
  3. People who drink 3 or more glasses of soda each day have 62% more tooth decay, fillings, and tooth loss than those who don't. Replace 2 glasses with water.
  4. While the most common use of dental floss is to clean in-between the teeth, in 1994 a prison inmate braided dental floss into a rope, scaled the prison wall, and escaped.
  5. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months. Bacteria can implant themselves on toothbrush bristles, thus contaminating your mouth.
  6. Recent poll results show that health professionals were among the most trusted people in the United States.
  7. Three out of four people in the United States suffer from some form of gum disease. For people over the age of 35, it is the leading cause of tooth loss.

The History Of The Heart-Shaped Box

www.JurimDental.com

Are you ready to celebrate with your sweetheart? Men everywhere will be scrambling to buy last minute gifts over the next few days.  Could you guess what they are most likely to buy? That's right, flowers and chocolate! Every other day of the year, women account for 75% of all chocolate sales.  However the roles reverse on February 14th and the men account for a majority of the sales. When did the tradition of giving chocolates on Valentine's Day become so common?

Since chocolate was first invented, it has been considered a valuable and decadent dessert. It was even referred to as the "food of the gods" and thought of as an aphrodisiac. Did you know that chocolate was one of the items brought back to Spain by Christopher Columbus? Many years later, chocolate was being sold to average citizens in England. The Cadbury brothers had opened a candy shop, offering the sweet dessert to all that entered. Then, in 1861, Richard Cadbury created the first heart-shaped box for Valentine's Day. The rest is history!

Candy is often a dentist's worst nightmare. Sugar is associated with tooth decay and cavities, however not all chocolate is created equal. Studies have found that dark chocolate can actually help prevent cavities from forming. Enjoy you Valentine's Day candy guilt-free this year. If milk chocolate is more your preference, just be sure to put a little more effort into your oral care routine this month.

For more information on the history of Valentine's Day and why we give chocolate, click here.

Provisional Restorations with Jurim CADTemps

www.JurimDental.com
P: (516) 466-1722

Whether you prefer us to provide you with a provisional stent that facilitates the replication of the diagnostic wax-up chairside, or you prefer for us to fabricate CAD/CAM provisionals for you to reline and insert, you can rest assured that Jurim Dental Studio will have your patient leaving your office with provisionals that best mimic the desired final restorations.

Allowing a patient to function with a provisional "cosmetic preview" is actually a critical step in diagnosis and helps to ensure the final restorations best meet the patient's desires. The provisionalized patient can provide you with feedback to best determine if any changes are needed when fabricating the final restorations so as to improve aesthetics, function, and/or speech.

The Beauty of Jurim CADTemps

Using either a real or virtual diagnostic wax-up, we can digitally design a set of our proprietary CADtemps and mill them from high-strength PMMA, ensuring strength and beauty for any case requiring long-term provisionalization. If the patient is satisfied with the CADtemp provisional and no changes are needed, then the saved digital file used to fabricate the CADtemps can be duplicated exactly to mill the final restorations. There is no better way to streamline communication between the lab, dentist, and patient to ensure the final result best meets everyone's restorative goals.

Do have any questions? If so, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page Linked Here. If you have any other questions please feel free to call our office at (516)466-1722.

NobelGuide from Jurim Dental Studio

www.JurimDental.com
P: (516) 466-1722

Whether it's a single missing tooth or an entire jaws worth of teeth, the NobelGuide has become an invaluable implant treatment tool for all dentists. The NobelGuide gives insight and confidence when making important decisions prior to oral surgery. We at Jurim Dental Studio will provide you with a diagnostic tooth set-up representing optimal placement of the final desired restoration to be evaluated intra-orally.

Jurim Dental StudioOnce it’s been optimized, the lab will then duplicate it into a radiographic guide with radio-opaque markers. With this scanning appliance seated intra-orally, your patient will have a CB scan made and then a second scan of the radiographic guide alone will be completed. Both the patient’s scan and that of the radiographic guide are then digitized and overlayed to allow for prosthetically-driven digital surgical planning with a software like NobelClinician.

Pre-surgical digital planning allows for identification, marking, and avoidance of important anatomic structures and the implants are virtually placed in the position best for the desired future prosthesis. Based on this digital surgical plan, a surgical guide is made to ensure precise, minimally-invasive implant surgery with the implants predictably placed in their exact desired position. Another powerful aspect of the NobelGuide workflow is it allows the dental lab to pre-fabricate implant-supported provisionals, ready for you to insert immediately following guided surgery placement of the implants.

Call 516-466-1722 today to speak with Dr. Alan Jurim regarding any questions you may about the NobelGuide treatment process and see how it is the right choice for you and your patients.
