Each year, nearly 42,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or throat cancer. The most important factor to improving survival rate is early detection so the issues can be treated early.

It is VERY important for patients to be aware of the following signs and symptoms, and to see their dentist if they do not disappear after two weeks. Below are some of the symptoms to watch out for:
  • A sore or irritation that doesn't go away
  • Red or White patches
  • Pain, Tenderness or Numbness in mouth or lips
  • A Lump, Thickening, Rough spot, Crust or Small Eroded area
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking, or moving your jaw or tongue
  • A change in the way your teeth are fitting together when you close your mouth
Years of research have showed that those who are heavy drinkers and smokers are at a high risk of developing oral cancer.

Your mouth is one of the body's best indicators for potential and on going health issues. It's very important NOT to ignore any abnormalities! If you are suspicious, call and make and appointment with your local dentist as soon as possible.
